Nearly 7 years ago, I started Atkins low carb way of eating to just quit gaining weight. I had to get my out of control appetite under control. I never imagined I could LOSE weight without hunger or exercise, since I've become disabled. I never bothered weighing or measuring til I'd noticed that my clothes got huge quick. When my health improved dramatically also, I knew this was my new way of life and since it's eat all you want (of low carb foods) I know I can do this for life.

My personal carb level is low. I am older & disabled & don't move much (or cook much) but I eat all I want of meats, eggs, cheeses, yogurt, fats, green vegetables, almonds, berries, flax seeds, chia seeds, shirataki noodles and other foods. Someone active would have a MUCH higher carb level & can usually include all fruits, beans, whole grain products but not sugar & highly refined carbs in unlimited amounts. As long as you have <9grams carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control & shouldn't gain weight, no matter the calories.

Most overweight & obese people have blood sugar & insulin dysfunctions and can NEVER eat carbs as someone with a functioning body can. They make the mistake of going back to the way of eating that made them fat and that is not possible and yes they will gain all weight back if they eat what they ate that made them obese originally. Insanity is defined as doing the exact same thing, in the exact same way and expecting different results. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar & maintain weight or health.

You can lose more body fat eating protein & fat (don't eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast, eat all you want, but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter & half an avocado a day (for added potassium). Keep the calories high & the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.

The first 2 weeks eat several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce & celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers & more vegetables thereafter - add 5 grams per day additional every week (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) til you gain weight, then subtract 10grams. That will be your personal carb level (everyone is different & depends on how active you are.)

Start with meat, fats & salads for 2 weeks and then slowly add in more green veg, wk4 fresh cheeses, wk5 nuts & seeds, wk6 berries, wk7 legumes, wk8 other fruits, wk9 starchy veg, wk10 whole grains. You will learn how your body reacts to different foods.

The first week is just water weight but fat is lost thereafter if you keep your calories high enough. Otherwise the body will strip it's own lean tissue for nutrition. Although that may look great on a scale it will make it MUCH easier to accumulate fat in the future (since all that pesky lean tissue burning up calories will be gone). The body won't release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow metabolism to compensate & store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering calories, it will continue lowering the set point, til it can survive off nothing & store fat on anything. The body will only release it's fat stores if it knows there is plenty of nutritious food.

Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) & exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.

The core of Atkins program is converting the body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). Dietary fat levels need to be at >65% of total calories, if not, the body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).

It takes about 3 days to convert a body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycolysis). People feel sluggish the first week but most feel better than ever thereafter.

Carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice, beans) trigger insulin (the ONLY fat storage hormone). Protein triggers the fat burning hormone glucagon..

High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger & unbalance other hormones. Controlling insulin levels will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so lean muscle will be gained even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase muscle mass with high HGH levels.

Ground flax seed (4 Tbsp) 1/4 cup water, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg - let sit 10 min. to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle & nuke 2 min. for daily fiber needs.

I took trimspa at one point and I lost weight but got the jitters. I was also working at a gym at the time so it is was a combination of diet pills and exercise. I can honestly say that I did not modify my diet at all which was great.

No offence, but I honestly don't understand how a perfectly thin person will somehow not notice themselves ballooning up over time. I've read a similar question and most overweight people seem to think it happened like "BAM" overnight. I'm very sensitive to how my weight fluctuates over time in small amounts. If there's a celebration like Easter, I can absolutely pig out, bloat a little (heh, usually it is just gas) and then it drops off again almost instantaneously. I know metabolism is a large factor, but concerning the obese I find it hard to grasp the idea of how they ended out that way without being willingly determined to gain weight. That's not an accusation, I just don't understand how it goes unnoticed?

I'm 22. I still live at home with my mum & sisters
I just finished a double degree at university
I wanted to keep studying next year but my family decided I should get a full time job. Now I'm teaching year 9&10 english.
Never planned on working full time next year but I accepted it.
I've been feeling depressed about it lately.
My family have now decided that I need to be on a diet., I basically can't eat anything- no smoothies, cheese.

I am a 5"3 40 plus year old female. I've noticed my metabolism is slowing down this year. My normal weight is 118, but over the winter I got to 123. Listen. Weight loss pills rarely work, and even if they do, that weight is so so easy to gain back. If you go to the gym 5 days a week for an hour or so, you will lose weight within a few weeks. That's not so bad. And eating healthier will only make it easier. Most people naturally burn off about 1500-2000 calories without any exercise. If you include the 300-500 calories you will be burning at the gym every day, that's over way 2000 calories that you burn a day. If you stick to eating less than 2000 calories a day (which is not hard) then you will lose weight before you know it. If you do go to the gym, I suggest using the elliptical, which is what I use, and try the stairmaster. Most people can only go on the stairmaster for a few minutes to start with, and that's fine. And if you can't get to a gym, walk around your block a few times every night.

I have been with my fiance for 8 years and last year had a daughter. Well his mother has always been in our relationship, she tags along when we go to the movies and shows up to my house unannounced. Since my daughter was born she has now used the excuse that she want to see the baby in order to be at my house all the time, she even invited people to her first birthday party without asking us. As soon as she doesn't get her way she throws a fit and makes my fiance feel like a horrible son so he can do as she says. Now my SIL is another story she has always talked to me however she wanted with attitude for reasons that make no sense to me (like why I didn't invite her friends to my baby shower) things like that, anyway so she (SIL) even cussed me out in front of her whole family on fathers day, my fiance does talk to them about their behavior but when they cry to him about making them feel bad he always gives in and acts like they do nothing wrong. So anyway point of this is that they are always at my house, at least once a week, and last weekend was my daughters party they were there saturday and sunday, today is her birthday so all I wanted to do was to spend some quality time with my family, just me my fiance and my baby, so his sister calls saying she's coming over tomorrow and what does my fiance do? Instead of telling her that we have plans he tells her to come...so out of frustration I posted on my twitter that i was annoyed and wanted to spend one special day with "my" family and that they (as in MIL and SIL) are always trying to be in the mix. Apparently his sister has been "stalking" my twitter page because i didn't even know she had one and she never mentioned that she knew i had one (and those of you who have twitter know that if ur twitter is not under your real name or email that its impossible to just stumble upon a profile) anyway so she read my rant and what does she do she calls my fiance and cry to him about it. Now I got a call from him (he is furious) saying i am disrespecting his family and him. I just feel like how dare he because for one I didn't even know she was reading it, she is not on my friend list, two: after all the disrespect i have received from his mother and sister you would think i would at least bea ble to have freedom of speech since I cant even talk to him about it because he gets angry when i mention his mom and sister, i feel like calling this quits because i can t see myself living the rest of my life like this dealing with his family. I can completely understand because I'm in a similar situation. I know you didnt choose to have your SIL and MIL overtake your marriage, but it was YOU that made the decision to be with him. It's a package deal. You can't ignore them, or try to distance yourself from them because you are with her son/brother and gave birth to their neice/granddaughter. All you can do is try to make the best of it. Don't get your friends involved or post things on twitter or facebook or anything else, it just make things messier. Instead of pushing them away, pull them in. Believe me, it will make things much easier on you, you're husband, and your relationship when the tension is down between you and the MIL/SIL. It will be hard at first, but believe me, it will get easier. Just try to make the best of things. And only talk to your husband when your upset, it's less dramatic that way. You want to lose weight and become more toned.

The best way to lose weight is to do more cardiovascular exercise such as running, biking, and swimming, for at least 20 minutes per day. Although a lot more time is recommended.

In addition to that, you can lose weight by consuming less calories than you're burning off. So if you burn off 2000 calories one day, and only eat 1000 calories you will see weight loss.

In terms of becoming more muscular, the best way to do it is to workout every muscle group. Since you want to become more toned, and not bulked, you should do high repetitions (10-12)

Some of the basic and most effective exercises can all be done with dumbbells, barbells, and a pull up bar, you don't need those fancy machines.

For every day of the week you should work a different body part and hit the muscle from every angle.

Biceps: Weighted chin ups
Barbell curls

Nutrition is the most important thing. Since you want to cut fat and gain muscle, you need to have a high protein, low fat/sugar/calories diet. This is ridiculous! I have been working out daily for years, but since I used to break my diet a few times a month I am only going to say a year. I am currently 5'4" and 163 pounds with a body fat percentage of ten percent. My legs, arms, shoulder, and my chest are all muscular. However, my stomach and butt are still fat! I have about an inch of fat on my stomach still that just will not go away. I think being short and muscular makes my stomach bunch together. Do you think that could be it?

My workout plan for the last year has been swimming laps for thirty minutes and running for thirty minutes everyday. I also lift weights daily, but I keep the weights lower so it is only for toning. My diet has been very healthy and I eat about two thousand calories. I have been eating a high protein diet. Any tips and/or advice?

It is not like I have not lost fat or gained muscle, but my stomach fat is going away slowly. I can see my six pack if I suck my stomach in, but it is obvious there is still some body fat I could trim. I have also heard of something called a workout plateau? A few things:
1) You need to switch it up. Your body is incredibly smart and will adjust to your workout/eating plan if you don't change it at all. That is workout plateau, and you are very likely experiencing it.
2) Since you need to switch it up, you'd be best incorporating a technique called HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training). It's a superior form of cardio that will burn fat for a longer period of time afterwards than traditional cardio. Google it (Tabata intervals may be of interest to you too)
3) You will likely be scared to, but you need to increase your daily intake. Your body is better off if you eat more and in turn exercise more to make up for that increase in intake. If 2000 cals/day is your maintenance level, then go up to about, say, 2300 cals and add in some HIIT to make up for it.

You know that your body has a genetically predetermined order in which it loses fat. For us guys, it's pretty much always the abdomen and often a bit of butt, too.

There's a guy named Mike Geary who has an awesome e-book that you might be interested in - it's called "The Truth About Abs". The guy knows a ridiculous amount of stuff, including how to beat the plateau that you are experiencing.

hi, im 13 years old and its the end of february right now. on march 1st, im going on a diet because i need to loose weight in my stomach in my thighs. i am 125 pounds and am 5 feet and 3 inchs tall. im not that overweight but i dont wanna look fat in the summer. so i wanna loose at least 20 in 3 months (by june). this is my plan:

You shouldn't really be trying to lose weight at your age because your body is still growing, however.. I am the same age and in the same situation (5'6 tall, 131lbs).

To lose weight you seem to be doing all the right things. For the walking thing, you should try to walk to school at a good strong pace. Sit-ups are really good for toning the stomach and push ups are good for the arms. Walking will tone up your bum (especially if you walk up steep hills!).

I wouldn't recommend milkshakes as milk is quite fattening. You could use soy milk and make your own but that is a bit too much hassle to be honest! Drink smoothies that are pure fruit, no colors, sugar or additives.

A good tip is not to starve yourself, not only does it make you depressed (as I fond out), as soon as you eat again you will put all your weight back on. Eat six snacks/meals (not too big!) a day, this will speed up your metabolism and make you lose weight faster. Another thing you can do to speed up your metabolism is, of course, exercise but also aim to drink 2 liters (2000ml) of water a day. This also gives you nice skin.

I don't know how much weight you will lose as everybody is different; there is no safe way to predict how much wight a person can lose during a certain period of time.

okay, i'm 15 years old, 5'1'' and about 150 pounds. according to my BMI and my doctor, i'm overweight and at risk for developing diseases like diabetes.

You have to assess yourself and see what you have done to be at 150 pounds. Then you want to make a slow transition into eating healthier as well as doing some exercise. Don't do anything too extreme, you should ease yourself into it.

Eat smaller meals throughout the day, so you can sustain it. Start off doing 20 mins of cardio 3 times a week. A good machine would be the elliptical machine since it does not cause any injuries as to running on a treadmill. Doing cardio will boost your metabolism so the earlier in the day you do it, the better it is for you. I recommend you do it first thing you wake up in the morning. If you do it in the morning you will be burning fat calories after 7 hours of sleep. If you work out anytime after that, you will just be burning the calories you consumed earlier that day.

I'll be travelling to Italy in a few weeks time and during my time there I plan to go to the Gardaland theme park (located by Lake Garda) in the north of Italy. It's the largest theme park in the country and the third largest in all of Europe.

It's wonderful I enjoyed so much...I want to recommend holding the pockets closed as well when you go on the rides, because a lot of people lost things :D you'll pay about 40 € and the second day is completely free (if you show the ticket at the counters of the park)!
In the park you'll find a lot of attractions, pubs and restaurants...

As a fellow traveler I can try to help you out. My experience with Italy has been that travelling by train can work out very well. A car is not ideal if you are going to be in major cities. Driving is a nightmare in Rome, roads do not exist in Venice, and some cities like Florence charge huge fines for anyone driving in the center of the city unless you are a residence of the city. There are often stories of people who ring up a thousand Euros in fines in a single day just by driving around.

Now the countryside will obviously be different from the cities. If you are going to be travelling to some very small towns, many do not have train stations there. On the other hand, some of the most beautiful small towns do not permit cars to drive in them. As a couple of examples, the gorgeous Cinque Terre (five towns on the Italian Riviera in north-western Italy) do not allow cars in their towns. As well, some of the best hill towns in Tuscany do not permit cars there either.

On the contrast, trains usually run frequently and very inexpensively. If you price out the cost of tickets at http://www.trenitalia.com you will be amazed at how inexpensive tickets for trips to/from a smaller town can be. The prices can be quite a bit higher for trips between major cities (like Naples-Rome-Florence) but that is because that travel will be on a high-speed train.

Be warned in advance, though. With the exception of the high-speed trains, which are wonderfully comfortable, many Italian trains are quite old, and not at all air conditioned... which can sometimes seem cruel in the hot, muggy summer months. Despite that, I enjoyed my train travel as I got to meet a lot of the Italians that way, and it was always so convenient travelling from city-center to city-center.

I guess my answer is that I find train travel to be the best, but it will come down to what your exact itinerary is and whether you plan on going to some places that are inaccessible by train.

Im guessing you on AT&T, so with that:
1) iPhone (iOS4)
2) Samsung Focus ( WP7)
3) Samsung Captivate ( Android 2.1)

These are the good phones on ATT.
They all have a 5MP camera as well as 720p video( although on WP7 it is manually put)
Perfect internet on all but have different styles, which is a matter of preference.
As for the music player, if you have a load of songs on iTunes, go with iPhone. If you have loads of songs on Zune, use Samsung Focus. Since these phones will only work on their own software.

For you final question, I'd Choose the Samsung Focus, because of it gorgeous Super AMOLED dipslay, that the iPhone doesn't have. Price is $200 on all phones on a new contract. Also the Samsung has a simplistic sored of concept and design as the iPhone.
You cant go wrong with ANY of these phones.

When I went on it, I had to have a stress test, an echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) a chest x-ray, I wore a holter monitor for 24 hours, and an EKG. Once cleared, I was able to get the meds, was closely monitored by the doctor, and had to go to see him every 2 weeks. You can only be on Adipex for a total of 12 weeks per year. It works, but PLEASE, by all means, don't cause yourself to starve! They are powerful, and make you forget to eat. Eat sensibly!

I thought that hoodia was basically speed... kinda like caffine.

When you stop the pills, the weight allll comes back because you didn't learn to live properly. The secret isn't "appetite suppression" but rather satisfying that appetite with foods that don't blow your calorie intake / calorie burn balance.

Pills usually work to take the weight off, but I've never met anyone who kept it off after there were done. Maybe you'll be the first... I dunno.

If you play regularly in Serie D then you will easily walk into any team in Auckland outside the National Football Championship. If you want to only spend a few months here the league runs until late August for winter and then summer soccer starts in late October. Summer soccer is primarily 7 a side, but there is an international league in Auckland that runs 11 aside comp's.

The lemon detox or master cleanse/starvation diet you are referring to is a calorie deficit program.
You will lose a few pounds but when you start eating again you will probably gain more weight. You will lose weight on this diet. The average adult American has eight meals in their digestive system. Five more than they should. By going on a deficit diet like this you can lose around 10 pounds just by not eating. But it is only the weight of the food in your digestive system.
So you will lose weight but it does not change your size. Pour the soda out of a bottle and the shape of the bottle doesn't change does it?

Aside from that, It depends on what region you live in and the local cost of living. It certainly depends on your financial management. Lots of affluent families manage to spend every thing they make and come to think anything less than $500k a year is practically poor. But I would think some families could accomplish this on maybe $200k a year (between both parents) in a relatively low cost-of-living area, if they spend wisely.

Aside from the jobs you listed, most generally it is small business owners who achieve that kind of income. Doesn't matter what type of business, just being successful is the key. Any diet that involves giving up certain foods entirely is not realistic - especially when those are your favorite foods!

Dieting is all about calories. You have to count the calories you eat now, do it for a few days, and then decide how much to cut by. Do NOT try to cut your calories by some ridiculous amount - if you're eating 2000 calories now, don't think you can cut to 1000. In fact, anything below 1200 means you aren't eating enough nutrients to stay healthy and alive.

There are many calorie counting tools out there, but I find that the easiest and most complete free one is at www.nutrimirror.com. You enter the foods you eat and it tells you how many calories you've had in a day, and will even recommend how many calories you should be eating to lose to your goal.

So i told my friend to dump his fat girl friend on facebook. So she adds me then im's me trying to tell me off.Her brother does magic for a living and my friends dad is famous for it but hes a dentist. In disguise healthy recipe with venison or fish?

I'm on a healthy diet right now, but my mom and 13 year old brother are coming over tonight and she asked me if I could make dinner for them. I said I would, but have no clue what to make!!...My brother is a kid that was raised on Kraft Mac&Cheese and quick meals, so I want something that's healthy in disguise I guess. I have either venison or fish (brim) to work with so please I need some help.

Just for further reference, we have some of our venison ground so that I can make anything with it. The kids have no Idea that it's hamburger and it has way less calories and fat.

I would make chili. Defrost the venison and cut it up into tiny chunks throw everything in the crock pot and proceed with your regular chili recipe. This is easily disguised as canned chili if you throw some cheese on top and give him some chips to dip in it. I think allrecipes.com has a couple recipes that are pretty low in calorie (less then 200 per serving. good luck!

I ran into an old friend from college the other day.

Smart guy, several degrees from big name places, but his career and life had suffered many major, serious understated setbacks the last 7 years.

USED to be very Christian, now he hates the very mention of the word.

I recall an interesting conversation I had with him a long time back.
He believed that he had a "relationship" with God, and that God spoke to him through various means.

1. When he heard "God"s word ie sermons, read his bible etc

2. Through people he met. He believed God would talk through people around him.

3. Through random media. He said sometimes a song he'd listen to on the radio or an ad playing would speak into his situations.

I didn't know what to say, other than that it sounded like a mental disorder to me.

To cut a long story short, he made a series of decisions that wrecked his life. They weren't immoral, just that his luck turned awful when he acted on what he believed strongly was God talking to him.

Is it REALLY common for most Christians to believe that God speaks to them?

It's fine and all if that "voice" happens to tell them things that help, but surely the entire practice falls too closely with schizophrenia.

ive been psychotic before and the voices you hear are much different than hearing the voice of God. when you hear voices, you actually hear a voice, as if someone is talking inside of your head. the voice has an accent or lack of one, tonality, etc.

when God speaks to you, it is more of a feeling that you put words to. its like instrumental music. you know how you can almost tell what instrumental music is saying, but it doesn't say it in words? that is kinda what God speaking to you is like. it is a feeling that you may or may not put words to.

so im a girl 13, 5'7, about 130 pounds. i MUSST lose weight before i go this concert and go on a cruise. the concert is a day before the cruise which is in about a month. dont say im a good weight because my stomach is almost flat and my arms are kind of big. im not fat i just want to be thin.

my diet is (80 % of the time right now but when i get home , im on vacation now, it will be 100% of the time) lots of fruits and veggies and hardboiled eggs, i dont like red meat so i just eat chicken adn turkey, no fried food, ice cream cake cookies or sweets, only wheat bread and no pasta but brwon rice. i also try to drink 3-4 L of water a day.

i have access to a treadmill every day for 2 weeks , and i was planning on running/ jogging for an hour a day 3-4 miles ish.

Let's put health issues and etc. aside.
Why do people have such problems with accepting fat people?
I'm fat.
I walk into the bus and everyone stares at me like; "Oh, don't sit next to me."
Then a group of skinny girls gathers together as they talk about how fat that girl next to them is.
I hear them, they don't even bother to whisper.
Why can't I be accepted like skinny girls get accepted?
I'm not saying it's hard for fat girls only, but c'mon?

I can't get it, I'd never make fun of someone for no particular reason, such as anger.
I take Therapy for a too low self-respect and those things don't make it easier for me.

There's nothing bad about being a little overweight. It'll happen to everyone sooner or later. The problem comes when you're morbidly obese and you know you are putting yourself at so many risks (healthwise, socially, sexually and other) yet you still keep feeding the habit and not exercising. Then people like that expect sympathy from everyone else who works hard to stay a healthy weight.

Good question. The best way is to go online to the Honda e-store and input your VIN number. Honda will display all the information on your car (tranny type, engine, and trim level). If that fails call your local dealership and give them your VIN. I work at a Honda dealer and we have a Honda catalog that determines your trim level based on the VIN. Other websites that can help are hondapartsnow.com and majestichonda.com
I would just try the first 2 suggestions though.
Ps. The VIN is located on the dash on the drivers side. It is only visible through the front windshield. Look for a bunch of numbers and letters on a small metal platecard.

A good college, somewhere in NY or New England, not too small and unrecognized but still a college where I can get a good education.

Okay, I just am worried...
I have a 3.5 overall GPA in the 2nd best school in my state, the classes are all honors level and considered college level by the superintendent of our county. I took the SAT the first time around and I threw up 3 times inbetween breaks because I had a flu so I ended up getting around a 1470 overall on all 3 sections yet when I took the practice tests I was getting around the 2100s range.

Thing is, I am also disadvantaged, I did not learn English until I was 12 and I believe it is unfair since I had to live in different countries like Japan, France, India (I am East Indian), Italy, and I came to the US in 2002. I always end up getting 590s on critical reading on the SAT and I am really pushing myself to get in the 700s.

Also, for ECs I have:

Academic DeCathlon (3 medals)
Local Medical College Ambassador's program
I plan on doing Soccer and Tennis when this school year begins
and I am currently shadowing a doctor at a local medical college

I have taken 1 AP Course so far and I will be taking 2 more my coming senior year. I will be a senior when this school year begins.

Should I just give up my Northeast hopes? I want to go to Cornell. I live in the state of Georgia and I WANT TO GET OUT OF HERE!

Cornell would be extremely hard for you to get into, but that doesn't mean you don't have other opportunities. Brown is another Ivy League and is therefore VERY difficult to get into, but they focus a lot on finding students with very diverse backgrounds. Your international experiences would therefore help you a lot there. You may really want to look into Northeastern University in Boston. It's an extremely good school, but isn't as insanely selective as the Ivies. Here's a website I just found with dozens and dozens of schools in the Northeastern USA. It lists the Ivies, but also all of the outstanding small liberal arts schools and large universities. I don't believe it mentions the University of Vermont, but you should look into it. It's considered one of the Public Ivies, and is therefore one of the greatest schools in the country.
